Here’s What All the ‘King of the Hill’ Characters Have Been Up to Since the Series Ended

Earlier today, my colleague JM McNab wrote that the newly released opening credits sequence for King of the Hill’s forthcoming 14th season is “full of more questions than answers.” But having attended the show’s ATX TV Festival earlier tonight, I can report a little bit more information than one is able to glean from the credits tease.
Here’s what we know…
Hank Hill
Don't Miss
As McNab noted, Hulu’s official logline has already revealed that Hank spent several years working a propane-related job in Saudi Arabia to save up for his retirement. Series co-creator Mike Judge, who also voices Hank, confirmed that Hank was employed in the world of “Saudi propane and Saudi propane accessories.” We also learned that the Hills lived on the Aramco residential base, where Hank liked that women were covered in public. Returning to the U.S. after a six-year absence, “there’s a whole world of things that would annoy Hank,” Judge explained.
Peggy Hill
Since Kathy Najimy, who voices Peggy, didn’t attend the , we didn’t hear too much about what she’s up to. While Hank, in retirement, is frustrated by the need to find ways to be useful around the house, the supremely confident and self-regarding Peggy throws herself into all kinds of new activities she’s sure she will excel in.
Bobby Hill
Now 21, Bobby has skipped college and, instead, become a successful sushi chef. (When the commented that Bobby has some swagger now, Pamela Adlon, who voices him, shot back, “He always did.”) Bobby’s restaurant is the source of some controversy. For one thing, it’s in Dallas, which elicited boos from the Austin crowd. For another, co-creator Greg Daniels announced, “He’s using charcoal.” “It’s a very special episode when (Hank) finds out,” added Judge.
Luanne Platter and Lucky Kleinschmidt
Peggy’s niece Luanne and her husband Lucky were voiced by Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty, who have both died since the end of the show’s 13th season in 2009. Rather than recast them with other performers, as producers have chosen to do with Dale Gribble (formerly voiced by the late Johnny Hardwick), new producer Saladin K. Patterson said writers have found opportunities for them to be referenced: the characters live on off-screen, presumably happily.
Dale Gribble
This may be the character fans are most curious to see updated for the political climate of 2025. “Dale’s back doing his thing,” said Toby Huss, who will take over the role of Dale in Season 14. “Dale’s been out-righted by the right with the conspiracy theories.”
Bill Dauterive
As McNab wrote, fans who watched the new intro sequence panicked when Bill seems to develop COVID and then never returns for beer in the alley, even though press materials included him. At the , we were assured that Bill is alive, but that he’s had a very hard time with the Hills’ big move; Patterson said that when Hank returns, Bill tells him, “I think I finished Netflix.”
Connie Souphanousinphone
Lauren Tom (who also voices Connie’s mother Minh, not that we heard very much about her) shared that Connie is in college. She’s also, according to Tom, more open-minded “in that Gen Z way” than the actor who plays her. Tom had to look up what “ENM” stands for, and learned that it’s “ethical non-monogamy”: “Racier than I thought Connie would be,” Tom said.
Was the solution to the Connie/Bobby/Joseph love triangle always just to make it an actual love triangle?
